The fruit of this amla possesses medicinal value. It is a very rich source of Vitamin C and is used to cure common cold, scurvy and pulmonary tuberculosis.
Ingredients for Gooseberry Pickle
- Amla pieces- 1 cup
- Mustard oil- 125ml
- Salt - 2 tbsp
- Green chillies- 7
- Ginger cut lengthwise- quarter cup
- Aniseed- 2 tbsp
- Turmeric powder- 1 tsp
- Asafoetida- quarter tsp
- Red chilli powder- 1 tbsp
- Jeera- half tsp
- Mustard seeds- half tsp

Wash and dry amla and keep aside. Heat oil in a pan. Add jeera and mustard seeds. Then add Amla and fry for few minutes. Sprinkle some water. Cover the pan with a lid for six minutes. Add the remaining ingredients. Turn the flame to medium and stir gently. Bottle it when cooled.
