Dry Amla - Dried Indian gooseberry aonla fruits

When the fruit is dried, the main ingredient, water, is mostly eliminated, and the remaining constituents are present in considerably larger proportions. The pulpy portion of fruit, dried and freed from the nuts contains: gallic acid 1.32%, tannin, sugar 36.10%; gum 13.75%; albumin 13.08%; crude cellulose 17.08%; mineral matter 4.12% and moisture 3.83%. Amla fruit ash contains chromium, 2.5; zinc, 4; and copper, 3 ppm. Presence of chromium is of therapeutic value in diabetes.

How to prepare/make dry amla?

Dry Amla Fruits are obtained by drying fresh amla fruits. Either it can be dried by exposing it to direct sun light or can be placed in a dryer.

  • Amla is good for almost everyone on a regular basis. It reduces or eliminates the risk of environmental pollutants, normalizes cholesterol, reduces unwanted fat, cures ulcers, reduces or prevents cancer,
  • Dry Amla fruit is used in Ayurvedic and Unani systems of medicine for various ailments like fever, liver disorder, indigestion, anemia, heart complaints and urinary problems.
  • A decoction prepared from the dry fruit combined with Harida (Terminalia chebula) and Bahada (Terminalia belerica) is useful in chronic dysentery and biliousness, in doses of 1 oz. once or twice daily.

  • The water in which dried amla pieces are soaked overnight is also nourishing to hair and can be used for the last rinse while washing the hair.
